Once you’ve decided to have ECU work done, the practical question is simple: how do you actually get your file to us? Here’s a clear walkthrough of what’s involved and how to make it go smoothly.
First, the file has to be read
The starting point is a read of your ECU — done with a flash tool, via OBD, bench or boot depending on the unit. If you’re a professional with your own tooling, you’ll read it yourself. If you’re not, this is the step a local specialist or tuner performs. Either way, the result is the original file that the work is based on.
What we need from you
To match and prepare the right file, the more detail the better: the full vehicle details (make, model, year), the engine code, the ECU manufacturer and numbers if you have them, and a clear statement of what you want — performance, emissions restoration, or something specific. Clear information up front means fewer questions and a faster turnaround.
A clean original read plus accurate vehicle details is 90% of a smooth job. Vague information is what slows everything down.
Sending the original
The original read is sent to us as a digital file. Because everything we do is digital, there’s no shipping of hardware — the file travels to us, the work is done, and the finished file comes back to you to write to the ECU. It’s a fully remote, worldwide process.
Always keep your own copy
Before sending anything, keep your own copy of the original read. We treat backups as sacred, and you should too — having your own untouched original is simply good practice. It costs nothing and means you’re never reliant on a single copy of an irreplaceable file.
What comes back
You receive the finished file, prepared and checksum-corrected, ready to write to your ECU. From there it’s the same flash tool that read the car that writes the new file back. We cover the full process in our how it works guide.
The bottom line
Getting your file to us means: read the ECU, gather accurate vehicle details, send the original digitally, and keep your own copy. It’s a remote, worldwide, fully digital process — and the cleaner your read and details, the smoother and faster the result.
